Forms

Every encoding of SEAMCALL that Intel XED knows, one row per XED instruction form (iform). How to read the notation.
InstructionEncodingRequires
SEAMCALL 64-bit mode only SEAMCALL66 0F 01 CFBase instruction set

Latency and throughput

What the scheduling models of LLVM 23.1.2 give for each form, not measurements: latency / reciprocal throughput in cycles, the ports under them. A row is a model, or models that agree; a dash, a form that its processors lack. Memory forms: latency from the address, ports without the load and store units. Which processors each model covers.

Operation

What the forms do, in pseudocode that our tests run against results recorded on real processors. How to read.

if not in_vmx or in_smm or seam:
    fault(UD)
if CPL > 0:
    fault(GP, 0)
if vmx_nonroot:
    vm_exit(76, 0)               # a guest's: to its hypervisor
if not msr[IA32_SEAMRR_MASK] >> 11 & 1:
    fault(GP, 0)                 # no SEAM range
if mov_ss:
    fault(GP, 0) # right after MOV SS or POP SS
loader = rax >> 63               # 1: the module's loader
if not seam_ready_ok():
    vm_fail_invalid() # SEAM off, the module (or loader)
                                 # not ready, or another processor
                                 # in the loader already
else:
    vm_succeed()
    seam = 1
    seam_loader = loader
    seam_call(loader)            # 35.1.1; NMIs and SMIs blocked

Not run on a processor: the probe never runs SEAMCALL, the hypervisor's call to the TDX module.

Operands

What each form reads and writes, as Intel XED records it: the operands of its syntax, in order, and the implicit ones that the syntax does not name. How to read.
OperandKindAction
SEAMCALL 64-bit mode only
RAXimplicitread, write
RFLAGSimplicitwrite

Flags

M modified, 0 cleared; blank: not affected. How to read.

Attributes

What else XED records about the forms. How to read.

All forms
privileged: CPL 0 only; may abort a TSX transaction

CPUID and processors

Each form belongs to an XED ISA set. A form can be used when the processor reports every CPUID bit of one of its ISA set's alternatives.

CPUID requirements and processors of the XED ISA sets above. Alternatives are separated by “or”; processors follow XED’s chip model, whose AMD processors end with Zen 2, and the CPU data of this site for Zen 3 to Zen 6.
ISA setCPUIDProcessors
TDX

No CPUID bit: processors with SEAM report its range register (SEAMRR) in bit 15 of the IA32_MTRRCAP MSR, and the TDX module has to be loaded.
