Forms
Data flow
Where the elements of the sources go, element 0 on the right; results that depend on a control value are drawn for an example. How to read.
Result single 0 is computed from single 0 of xmm3; singles 3 to 1 are those of xmm2. Result singles 3 to 0: a3, a2, a1, r0.
Operation
What the forms do, in pseudocode that our tests run against results recorded on real processors. How to read.
xmm1.f32[0] = rcp(src3.f32[0])
for i in range(1, 4):
xmm1.d[i] = xmm2.d[i]
# rcp: 1/a within 1.5 * 2^-12; Zen 5's 2
# recorded results: 1.2915 * 2^-12 at most
# a denormal is a zero, and so is a result below 2^-126
# (in Zen 5's cases, from |a| = 2^127 up), whatever
# MXCSR says; no flags
# xmm1 is zeroed from bit 128 upRun on AMD Zen 5 (EPYC 9645): 4 cases.
Operands
| Operand | Kind | Action |
|---|---|---|
VRCPSS xmm, xmm, xmm/m32 | ||
xmm | explicit | write |
xmm | explicit | read |
xmm/m32 | explicit | read |
Flags
None: XED records no flag that the forms test or change.
Exceptions
The exception class is XED's name for the set of exception conditions that a form follows. How to read.

Intrinsics
The C intrinsics of Clang 23.1.2 that compile to VRCPSS, each with the form it compiles to and the Clang options it needs. The forms come from compiling every intrinsic and decoding the result with Intel XED; all intrinsics A–Z explains the method.

CPUID and processors
Each form belongs to an XED ISA set. A form can be used when the processor reports every CPUID bit of one of its ISA set's alternatives.
